Hello Beautiful People,

Whether you’re a Jamaican living in Jamaica; a Jamaican living in foreign; or a non-Jamaican living in Jamaica or in foreign, Snapshots of Jamaican Living was started with you in mind. It features narratives and other creative works with our behaviour, traditions, culture and lifestyle at their centre.

The blog is designed to give non-Jamaicans an idea of day-to-day living in our neck of the Caribbean woods. For Jamaicans, the aim is to have you fondly reminiscing on the simple yet memorable aspects of our people and country.

Narratives are a mix of British English and Jamaican patois (which is how most Jamaicans talk when in each other’s company). It’s deliberately done so you’ll feel like you’re in Jamaica having a good-good conversation wid di country girl next door. If you’ve never read patois before and have difficulty understanding it, don’t worry, you’ll catch on.

So browse through, enjoy the offerings and leave your comments.

  1. Very nice blog. I’m an American hoping to move part time to Jamaica in the future and consuming all the information I can in the meantime. I love your use and explanations of patois and descriptions of the joys and trials of Jamaican life.

    1. Hi Lauren! Thanks for checking out my blog! I’m grateful you’re finding it useful. Jamaica is an interesting place to live, but the culture etc can be tricky to understand/navigate (as with any unfamiliar place). I commend you for reading up, and I’m glad I was able to help in some way. Best wishes to you.
